Oil prices rise

The Christmas lull in the oil market has given way to a weekly rise in prices, as geopolitical tensions helped Brent surpass the $62 per barrel mark. WTI with February delivery is up 0.2%, trading at $58.47/bbl. Venezuela and the potential reduction in heavy oil production remain the primary focus. However, U.S. strikes in Nigeria on Boxing Day could open a new front for the bullish trend. Weekly dynamics are likely to be positive — showing approximately 3% growth — though oil has lost about 1.3% over the month. Trading volume remains thin this week due to the Christmas holidays, adding to the general uncertainty.
