President of Kazakhstan to make official visit to Japan

From December 18 to 20, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will make an official visit to Japan, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the press service of Akorda.

During the visit, meetings are scheduled with Emperor Naruhito, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, as well as representatives of Japan’s business community.

In addition, the President of Kazakhstan will participate in the “Central Asia – Japan” summit.

Earlier, on August 25, Kazakhstan was visited by Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwai, who expressed hope for further strengthening cooperation with Kazakhstan as a strategic partner in maintaining and promoting a free and open international order based on the rule of law. He also expressed hope for further development of bilateral relations through enhancing collaboration on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM), mineral resources, attracting Japanese companies, as well as nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.

Japanese companies are also interested in the Central Corridor route passing through China and Central Asia. In November, representatives of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, along with representatives of Japanese logistics and trading companies, visited the region bordering China. Direct investment from Japan in Kazakhstan since 2013 has amounted to more than $7.8 billion, making Japan the tenth-largest investor in the country. Bilateral trade turnover reached approximately $1.8 billion in 2024. Japan’s high technologies in the field of desalination and the use of ocean water, as well as sustainable water supply projects, are of great importance not only for addressing domestic water supply challenges, but also for tackling water resource issues worldwide, where water scarcity is intensifying and numerous initiatives are being implemented.
