Türkiye will assume the presidency and host the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31). In this context, the country is placing the “Zero Waste” concept at the center of international climate diplomacy. Efforts in this area are being carried out by the Zero Waste Foundation under the leadership of Emine Erdoğan, the spouse of the Turkish President, according to aa.com.tr.
According to a statement by the foundation, Türkiye, which will host COP31 next year, is preparing to play an important role in the global fight against climate change.
Developed in line with UN standards for sustainable events, this framework includes such areas as “Zero Waste Management Protocols,” “Carbon Emissions Reduction and Offset Strategies,” “Sustainable Logistics and Transport Planning,” “Environmental Performance Criteria for Event Venues,” as well as “Stakeholder Engagement and Transparency Mechanisms.” This approach aims to turn COP31 not merely into a conference, but into a global benchmark for sustainable mega-events.
