President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella has arrived in Azerbaijan on a state visit. The visit has a regional character, as he came to Baku following his state visit to Kazakhstan.

During his meetings in Astana, the Head of the Italian State particularly noted that Italy is Kazakhstan’s leading trading partner in Europe, playing a key role in such strategic sectors as energy security, which is gaining increasing importance in this historical period, when we are faced with the immense challenge of the energy transition necessary to ensure the environmental aspect of sustainable development for the benefit of future generations.

“The excellent relations between Italy and Kazakhstan are focused primarily on oil, as well as on transport, infrastructure, culture, and universities. These close ties will continue to develop between the two countries, also on the basis of Astana’s praiseworthy decision to renounce nuclear weapons, which represents a ‘choice for peace and civilization,’” he emphasized.
